Junior middle blocker Kristen Torre pounded 15 kills with just one error in 26 total attempts, and the SIUEdwardsville volleyball team posted a 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 victory over Morehead State on Friday evening (Nov. 7) at the Vadalabene Center.
The Cougars improve to 13-15 overall, 5-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 7-3 at home. The Eagles slip to 2-26 overall, 2-11 in league matches and 1-10 on the road. The win was SIU Edwardsville's first over Morehead State in seven all-time meetings.
Torre's .538 attack percentage helped SIU Edwardsville hit .206 for the match. The Cougars opened with a .214 clip, tallied a .167 mark in set two and finished with a .237 efficiency. SIUE recorded advantages of 40-36 in kills, 37-33 in assists and 7-2 in aces.
SIU Edwardsville used an early 6-0 run in the first period and never looked back. The Cougars then jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second stanza and never trailed. The final set was nip-and-tuck with seven ties and four lead changes. A late 9-2 surge was the difference for SIUE.
Junior middle blocker Hannah Sigala paced the Eagles with nine kills, while sophomore libero Hope Rillema contributed a match-best 14 digs and senior setter Colbey Cameron handed out a match-high 27 assists. The Eagles notched edges of 6-4 in team blocks and 39-37 in digs.
MSU wraps up its OVC road swing on Saturday (Nov. 8) at Eastern Illinois. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
