Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers is applauding Tuesday’s (April 1) passage of an aid package for Ukraine and sanctions on Russia in response to its annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea region.

The Somerset Republican chairs the House Appropriations Committee and helped win overwhelming approval for the measure in his chamber.

Rogers calls the bill critically important for promoting security and democracy.

“It also sends I think a very clear message, that the United States will not tolerate the Russian incursion into Ukraine, human rights abuses or corruption by imposing sanctions, visa bans and asset freezes.” –Hal Rogers

Rogers says the legislation supports a one-billion dollar loan guarantee for Ukraine’s government and provides 150-million dollars in assistance to Ukraine and surrounding countries.
