Kentucky police officers would have a chance to own the gun they were issued when they turn in their badge, under legislation approved Wednesday (Jan. 22) by a House panel. The Committee on Local Government passed the bill sponsored by State Representative Jimmie Lee.

“A local law enforcement officer upon retirement through an appraisal of his sidearm that he’s carried all those years that he would be allowed to buy that firearm.” –Jimmie Lee

Lee says money from the sales would go into a fund to buy bullet-proof vests for police officers. His bill now goes to the full House.
