A high-tech greenhouse has secured an $82-million dollar investment to build in Rowan County.

AppHarvest announced a deal with Equilibrium Capital which will fund the construction of the facility, along with ValueAct Capital and Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund.

Construction will begin immediately on the company’s first controlled-environment agriculture facility in Appalachia with its opening planned for 2020.

AppHarvest Founder and CEO Jonathan Webb says his team is very excited to begin building in Morehead.

As a Benefit Corporation, AppHarvest is focused on sustainable farming, creating a home grown food supply, making nutritious food more accessible, and investing in Appalachia.
