State and local officials were on hand today to designate part of Kentucky 801 in Rowan County as the SSG Daniel Fannin Memorial Highway. The road from I-64 to the Fleming County line has been named for the Morehead native who was killed in Afghanistan last year while serving as a staff sergeant with the U-S Air Force.

Fannin’s mother, Shari Jones of Morehead, says her son would have been happy with the choice of road, since it’s near Cave Run Lake…

Daniel Fannin joined the Air Force after graduating from Rowan County High School in 2001. He was serving with a reconnaissance squadron at Kandahar Air Base and was 30 years old when he died in a plane crash.
