The Rowan County Board of Education voted to approve a COVID-19 test to stay program for students and staff within the district.

The state created guidelines for the schools, but the district began the process to make sure the tests needed would be available back in September.

Renea Smith is the Director of Nursing and District health for Rowan.  She says parents will have the option to participate in the program, or keep their quarantine student at home.

Smith says test-to-stay protocols will allow more students to remain in the classroom.

The program will be run at no cost to the district or the parents.
