Street parking will remain available for residents on the initial stretch of Knapp Avenue in Morehead.

Parking was closed off on one side of the street years ago.  The issue became a topic of discussion again for Morehead City Council after the municipality received multiple calls about school buses being unable to navigate the area between Second Street and Cecil Drive near the beginning of the school year.  This raised a safety concern for councilmembers after it was pointed out similar situations were a possibility for ambulances and firetrucks trying to respond to calls there.

Councilmember David Perkins says he changed his mind on the matter from when it was up for consideration previously.

However, many Knapp residents were in attendance at the meeting who did not agree.  John Ellis has lived on the street for years, and told council he believed the issue had already been addressed appropriately.

Council ultimately voted against the measure 5-1, with Perkins casting the lone yes vote.
