The Morehead City Council hired engineering firm Gresham Smith to evaluate the city’s fiber network during a special called meeting on Monday.

The city contributed to fiber installation during the Kentucky Wired Project, which gives the city access to 11 miles of dark fiber.

Councilman David Perkins says the firm will evaluate that installation and make recommendations about how best to use it.

Perkins says the evaluation and report will cost the city approximately $30-thousand dollars.
