As activists continue to push for police reform around the country, the Morehead Police Department has found itself in the forefront of progressive policies.

Eight Can’t Wait is a movement that coincides with Black Lives Matter ideals, but focuses more so on implementing policies within police departments that result in fewer law enforcement related deaths.  They include banning no-knock warrants and chokeholds, requiring de-escalation and issuing a warning before firing their service weapon.

Mayor Laura White-Brown says some individuals with the movement recently spoke with herself, City Attorney Joyce Stevens and MPD Chief Derrick Blevins.

As for the issue of no-knock warrants, White-Brown says the city has never acquired one, nor has it ever attempted to.
