Kings Daughters Medical Center has obtained a federal grant to conduct free health screenings in Morehead on August 21st. KDMC’s Outreach Specialist Tracy Woods says a mobile unit will be stationed outside the Rowan County Public Library beginning at 10 a.m:

“They get a total cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, pulse oxygen…they get all of those results there on the spot. We also do an E-K-G. The E-K-G is actually brought back to our cardiologist to read and we call people back if they have an abnormal.”

Woods says heart disease accounts for about a third of U.S. deaths annually…and the percentage is even higher in eastern Kentucky.
