Congressman Hal Rogers says President Obama’s proposed 2015 budget includes significant cuts to a Department of Agriculture direct loan program that has helped eastern Kentucky families build new homes. The Somerset Republican says the program has a “sweat-equity” provision that enables rural families to save even more money by doing some of the work themselves…

Rogers says that woman is now expecting heating bills around $100 a month. He says another single mother used the loan program to build a 4 bedroom home for herself and her four children for $102,000. Rogers says a contractor would have charged $148,000.

The congressman says he’d like more emphasis on programs like this and not see support for them being reduced.
