A retired Air Force veteran has filed to run for Congress in Kentucky’s 5th district, which includes Rowan County. 70-year-old Billy Ray Wilson of London is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for the seat currently held by Hal Rogers.

Wilson also challenged the veteran Republican in GOP primaries in 2002 and 2004. However, he says he became a Democrat partly because of discontent with the wars waged in Iraq and Afghanistan by the Bush Administration. Wilson says the U.S. sent troops into both countries, even though they were not responsible for the terrorist attacks of September 11th

Wilson says Kentucky’s economy would be improved by legalizing hemp and marijuana, as well as casino gambling.
