Rowan County has been honored by the Kentucky Travel Industry with the Economic Engine Award.

Officials were on hand Friday to present the award, which is given to counties that have had a significant economic impact on the local economy from tourism. Rowan County was recognized as one of the highest tourism revenue generating and tourism job creating counties in the state.

KTI Association President Hank Phillips presented the award. He says tourism is one of the largest economic drivers for Kentucky.

Phillips says the taxes generated by tourism dollars save the average family of 4 more than $1,000 in taxes each year.
