Kentucky Labor Cabinet

Governor Beshear’s labor secretary says his cabinet is developing new initiatives to address Kentucky’s shortage of skilled workers in advanced manufacturing. Larry Roberts testified in Frankfort today before House and Senate members of the Labor and Industry Committee.

He says a pilot program is being launched this fall that could be expanded statewide in 2014 if all goes well…

Roberts says the program is employer-driven, with manufacturers working with local career centers to develop curriculums. He’s expecting 15 new apprenticeships to be approved before the end of this year.
