Fans of theater may be interested in a double show hosted in MSU’s Lucille Caudill Little Theater. Both plays are student directed, with a 15 minute intermission in between them.
Caleb Hoppe, a Theater major in his last semester at Morehead State University directs one of the plays. He said each play will only be one act as to meet the standard theater requirements of a showing.
“I think it is a great experience for aspiring student directors to take on this kind of challenge, of not knowing how things are going to play out and just sort of rolling with the punches because in the theater industry that tends to be how things happen,” Hoppe said.
Officials said both plays are set, and lighting designed by their directors, who also share a budget and staff.
Student Director Natalie Shoemaker said the showings collaboration is a first for the theater program.
“We’re both leaving this semester because I have to student teach and Caleb is graduating early. We both have had this strong passion to want to direct since we got here. We both thought this was an amazing opportunity and were told we have to see if we can make this work,” Shoemaker said.
The first play is titled The Lover and the second is called The Zoo Story. Showings are from September 25, 26 and 27 beginning at 7:30 p.m. and September 28 at 2 p.m.
