Rowan County Christmas still seeking gift donations

Rowan County Christmas

Organizers of Rowan County Christmas are still looking for volunteers and toy donations. The local nonprofit has been around since 1993 and works to make sure every child in Rowan County receives a gift and a meal on Christmas Day. Officials said donations of cash and new unopened toys are needed and can be donated to an angel tree set up at First Federal Bank or sent to P.O. Box 1323, Morehead Kentucky.

Charlotte Mullins is the Chair of the Board of Directors for Rowan County Christmas. She said the organization is also looking for volunteers for distribution day.

“Distribution day is a very busy day. It’s December 15 this year at the Carl Perkins center. We start at 8 a.m. That entire week up until the 15, we are there. We are organizing toys. We are bundling toys by age group. There's a lot of people moving in and out. A lot of our volunteers stay there till 8 or 9 o’clock at night,” said Mullins.

Mullins added the most rewarding part of volunteering is seeing the families and seniors line up on distribution day. She said children are not allowed in, though, so their presents are a surprise on Christmas morning.

Donated toys must be dropped off or sent in by December 12. Organizers ask that the toys not be made of cloth or plush material.
