Paving operations will require a short-term closure tomorrow of two access ramps at the I-64/US 60 interchange (Exit 181) at Coalton in Boyd County.
Beginning about 7 a.m. Saturday, June 1, contractors will remove old blacktop from the circular ramps — the I-64 westbound off ramp to US 60, and the I-64 eastbound on ramp from US 60. Each ramp will be closed for several hours for the work. Electronic message boards will be used to notify traffic of closures and detours:
•Westbound I-64 traffic needing access to US 60 at Coalton may use Exit 185 to KY 180 to reroute to US 60 at Cannonsburg; or traffic may continue west past Exit 181 and turn around at Exit 179 via KY 67-Industrial Parkway.
•Traffic on US 60 at Coalton or coming out of Carter County needing access to I-64 east toward Huntington should continue on US 60 to Cannonsburg and take KY 180 to the Exit 185 interchange.
The work is part of a $2.6 million state highway improvement project that will resurface 5 miles of I-64 in Boyd County from mile markers 180 to 185 between the US 60-Coalton and KY 180-Cannonsburg exits. Interstate traffic is restricted to one lane both eastbound and westbound in that area, and the speed limit has been reduced.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
