The Morehead State Soccer team has been awarded for its performance in the classroom during the fall 2019 semester, receiving the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches.

For a team to be considered for the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official NCAA roster.

The Eagles turned in a composite team GPA of 3.5 in the fall.

Freshman midfielder Eva Kiper scored her first-career goal in the 66th minute to help Morehead State Soccer earn a 1-0 victory against Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon at JSU Soccer Complex.

The victory is the Eagles first against the Gamecocks on the road since a 2-1 double-overtime win on Sept. 29, 2013.

The 2019 Morehead State Soccer team etched itself in history with a 2-1 win over Akron on Sunday evening as the victory marked the program's first-ever victory on their new home field, the MSU Recreation & Wellness Intramural Field.

The win, which saw the Eagles climb back from an early deficit, was the first of the new season and improved their record to 1-2. The Zips dropped to 1-3 for the season with the loss.

The Morehead State Soccer team fell 3-0 to the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday evening at Lynn Stadium.

The Cardinals first goal came in the 23rd minute after a cross from Arianna Ferraro found the inside of Maisie Whitsett's cleat and skipped to the right of MSU freshman goalkeeper Grace Gaffney.

The score remained at 1-0 over the next 29 minutes of play before Emina Ekic's through ball beat the Eagles' back line and found a streaking Delaney Snyder for a goal that was nearly blocked away by Gaffney.

The Morehead State Soccer program will now call the MSU Recreation & Wellness Intramural Field home, Associate Athletic Director Jamie Gordon announced on Wednesday.

"This is a great opportunity for our soccer program," said Gordon. "We are always looking for ways to boost our student-athlete experience and this facility is something we believe will do that. Our department saw the excitement created during our exhibition match against Marshall at the facility and wanted to capitalize on that."

The Morehead State Soccer program has hired former Nebraska goalkeeper Lauren Smith as a graduate assistant coach.

Smith, who is a native of Glenview, Ill., played four seasons for the Cornhuskers in goal. During that time the Nebraska Soccer program racked up 37 wins and qualified for the NCAA Tournament during her sophomore campaign in 2011. In the classroom, Smith was recognized as Academic All-Big Ten as a junior and senior while also achieving six-time status to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll during her four years.

A handful of Morehead State soccer athletes took advantage of an incredible opportunity to train alongside and play against some of the best collegiate soccer players in the nation with summer league teams this year.

The Morehead State soccer team knocked off Ohio Valley Conference rival Austin Peay, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Jayne Stadium.

A goal in the 5th minute by senior forward Dani Wilson proved to be enough as the Eagles defense and senior goalkeeper Michelle Washburn were able to contain the Governors' offense.

The Morehead State soccer team erased a three-goal deficient to force overtime before ultimately falling to Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky, 4-3, in 104 minutes on Tuesday afternoon at the EKU Soccer Field.

The Eagles fell behind 3-0 before senior forward Dani Wilson swung the momentum back to her team with a break-away chip shot over the Colonels goalkeeper in the 59th minute. The ball was played up from the back by freshman defender Evan Kays who picked up her first-career assist.

The Morehead State soccer team fell to Ohio State 7-0 on Thursday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Field.

Morehead State trailed 3-0 at half before conceding five second-half goals. Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Eva Helgadottir started and played the entire first half before giving way to senior goalkeeper Michelle Washburn. Helgadottir made four saves in the first 45 minutes of action while Washburn made eight.

The Eagles' offense was stifled by the Buckeyes defense and were unable to get off any shots in the loss while Ohio State fired 37 shots with 20 on goal.

Still seeking a statement win to kick start the season, Morehead State soccer (0-2) welcomes Bowling Green (1-0) to Jayne Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.

"Friday is one of those opportunities where we're looking to get a result now," said head coach Warren Lipka. "We're on the right track. We're just kind of putting things together right now. It takes a little time."

Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead for the second time in as many games, Morehead State dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Northern Kentucky on Monday night at Jayne Stadium.

The Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Norse advance to 2-0.

"We moved another step forward tonight," said head coach Warren Lipka. "We're getting our numbers back, we're getting better, and that's what we need to do."

Morehead State soccer (0-1) returns home for its 2017 debut at Jayne Stadium versus Northern Kentucky (1-0) on Monday at 7 p.m. ET.

"Our attitude is to get better every time we get a chance, whether in a training environment or in a game situation," said head coach Warren Lipka. "We played pretty well for 60 minutes on Friday. Now let's extend that to 90 on Monday."

Morehead State struck first, but ultimately fell 3-1 at Western Carolina in Friday's regular-season opener.

"I'm encouraged how we came out tonight," said MSU head coach Warren Lipka. "We were a better team, but we got a little tired. We must maintain that effort for 90 minutes."

Freshman midfielder Caitlyn Burdine netted the initial score of the match, thanks to an assist from junior Samantha Damante in the 31st minute. Western Carolina quickly followed on the scoreboard, however, notching its first goal less than 30 seconds later.

The 2015 Morehead State soccer team will play 20 regular-season matches prior to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The Eagles have 10 home contests, plus 10 road tilts in the states of Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wyoming.

"We are looking forward to the upcoming season," Head Coach Warren Lipka said. "We have put together another very challenging non-conference schedule, which should prepare us for conference play. Our league seems to get better every year, and I would expect that to continue in 2015."

Morehead State soccer standout Jade Flory has signed a professional contract to compete for Prottur Reykjavik in the Icelandic Women's Premier Division.

The Premier Division is the highest level of professional soccer on the island, in conjunction with the Futbol Association of Iceland. The club is also known as Throttur FC.

"I am so excited, it's hard to even put it into words right now," Flory said. "I get to live out my childhood dream playing the sport I love, and I couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity."

The Morehead State soccer program has once again earned a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The award, which celebrates achievements during the 2013-14 school year, marks the seventh time overall and fifth consecutive year MSU has earned this honor.

MSU was one of six Ohio Valley Conference teams earning this year's accolade. Soccer also claimed the honor in 2002-03, 2006-07, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13.

MSU Soccer Season Ends in OVC Tournament Semifinals

The sixth-seeded Morehead State soccer team took a late one-goal lead in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon (Nov. 7) at Houck Stadium, but second-seeded SIU Edwardsville answered with a pair of goals en route to a 2-1 overtime win.

The Cougars advance to the OVC Tournament championship match on Sunday at 2 p.m. SIUE will square off with fifth-seeded Jacksonville State after the Gamecocks turned in a 1-0 upset of the top-seeded Southeast Missouri Redhawks in the nightcap of Friday's semifinal round.

The sixth-seeded Morehead State soccer team converted three of its first four shots on goal and never looked back in a 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament victory over third-seeded Murray State on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 6) at Houck Stadium.

The Eagles advance to the OVC semifinals, where they will square off with second-seeded SIU Edwardsville on Friday (Nov. 7) at 5 p.m. The host and top seed, Southeast Missouri, will face either fourth-seeded UT Martin or fifth-seeded Jacksonville State in the other semifinal.

Flory and Gomez Earn All-OVC Soccer Honors

Morehead State senior forward Jade Flory and junior defender Kelsey Gomez have earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors for the 2014 soccer season.

"I'm very proud of Jade and Kelsey for their accomplishments this season," Head Coach Warren Lipka said. "They are both very deserving of these awards and the recognition."

Flory has posted 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points in 20 matches this year. She ranks third in the OVC in points (1.55) and goals per match (0.60), while placing fourth in assists average (0.35).

Eagle Soccer Clinches OVC Tourney Berth

Morehead State's soccer team punched its ticket to next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Friday (Oct. 31) as goals by three different players elevated the Eagles to a 3-1 victory over in-state rival Eastern Kentucky at the EKU Soccer Complex.

The Eagles (10-5-5, 5-3-2 OVC) will find out their seed and opening-round opponent in the OVC Tournament later on Friday evening. The event begins Thursday at either SIU Edwardsville or Southeast Missouri. Morehead State is now 7-2-2 all-time against the Colonels.

Jade Flory Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Morehead State soccer student-athlete Jade Flory has been named to the Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All District II Team.

Flory, who has earned a 3.66 cumulative grade point average in business administration, was named to the first-team. With her selection, she is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration and will be placed on the national ballot. She was one of only four Ohio Valley Conference soccer athletes named to an all-district team.

Soccer Concludes Home Schedule with 5-0 Victory

Goals and assists by four different players highlighted Morehead State soccer's 5-0 victory over Eastern Illinois Sunday (Oct. 26) in the 2014 home finale at Jayne Stadium.

MSU improved to 9-5-5 overall and 4-3-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Eagles were 7-1-0 at home this season. The Panthers fell to 2-14-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the league.

It was Senior Day, with 12 members of the team appearing in their final match at Jayne Stadium.

A 30-yard, bending shot over a retreating goalkeeper proved to be the difference as the SIU Edwardsville soccer team held on to defeat Morehead State 2-1 Friday (Oct. 17) at Jayne Stadium.

The Cougars improved to 8-5-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, handing MSU its first home loss in seven matches this year. The Eagles slipped to 8-4-5 overall and 3-2-2 in the league.
