Men's Basketball Falls To Bowling Green

Junior Richaun Holmes and senior Cameron Black combined for 28 points, 17 rebounds and 12 blocked shots to help the Bowling Green men's basketball team record a 67-61 victory over Morehead State on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 15) at MSU’s Johnson Arena.

Five Bowling Green players reached double figures in the scoring column, and the Falcons were credited with 14 rejections. Holmes netted a game-high 17 points, plus five rebounds and seven blocks. Black tallied 11 points, 12 rebounds and swatted five attempts.

MSU Slips By Wright State 74-69

Junior Angelo Warner posted 19 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals to help the Morehead State men's basketball team score a 74-69 victory over Wright State on Monday night (Dec. 2) at MSU’s Johnson Arena.

"Angelo is our do-it-all guy," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "He's as consistent and tough as any player I've ever coached. Angelo had another really solid game for us, especially down the stretch, and was a big key in our victory."

Morehead State junior Angelo Warner has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the period of Nov. 25-Dec. 1 after averaging 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a pair of Las Vegas Invitational games.

Warner, a 6-foot-2 guard, connected on 64 percent (18-of-28) from the field and 67 percent (6-of-9) from the free-throw line. He registered 22 points in a win over Chattanooga on Thanksgiving Day and 22 more in an overtime setback to Gardner-Webb the following day.

Men's Basketball To Host Wright State

The Morehead State men's basketball team returns to Johnson Arena on Monday (Dec. 2) when it entertains Horizon League opponent Wright State at 7 p.m. The Eagles have not played at home since Nov. 17.

The Raiders, who have won four of their last five games, are 5-3 on the season. The Eagles, who have won four of their last six contests, are 6-3 overall. MSU owns a 6-5 advantage in the all-time series against WSU.

Comeback Lifts Gardner-Webb Past Men's Basketball

The Gardner-Webb men's basketball team erased a 17-point deficit in the second half to score an 86-82 overtime victory over Morehead State on Friday afternoon (Nov. 29) at Orleans Arena.

The Big South Conference Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 4-4 overall, while the Ohio Valley Conference Eagles slip to 6-3 on the season. At 6-2, MSU was off to its best start since the 1983-84 campaign. The tilt was part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational, which also included UCLA, Missouri, Northwestern, Nevada, IUPUI and Chattanooga. MSU finishes its 10-day West Coast swing 2-2.

Posthumus Named OVC Co-Player Of The Week

Morehead State senior Chad Posthumus has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week after posting 37 points (12.3 pg) and 50 rebounds (16.7 pg) in three contests last week. The Eagles went 2-1 with wins over Northern Kentucky and Nevada.

Posthumus pulled down a game-best 16 rebounds at Northern Kentucky. He also tallied a career-high 21 points and game-high 18 rebounds at nationally-ranked UCLA. The center then recorded 10 points and a game-best 16 rebounds at Nevada.

MSU Drops Nevada For Record-Setting Victory

Senior Chad Posthumus notched his sixth career double-double, and the Morehead State men's basketball team tallied a 63-58 win over Nevada on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 24) at the Lawlor Events Center. The victory was MSU's fifth in November, which marks a school record.

The Eagles, who compete in the Ohio Valley Conference, improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 on the road. Morehead State is just one win from matching its road-victories total from all of 2012-13 (4-12). The Wolf Pack, which plays in the Mountain West Conference, falls to 3-3 on the year.

Junior Angelo Warner posted a game-high 25 points and senior Chad Posthumus yanked down a game-best 16 rebounds to help the Morehead State men's basketball team earn a 74-61 win over Northern Kentucky on Tuesday night (Nov. 19) at The Bank of Kentucky Center.

The Eagles, who play basketball in the Ohio Valley Conference, improve to 4-1 on the season with their second consecutive victory and second road win in 2013-14. The Norse, which plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference, slips to 0-4 overall. MSU also moves to 6-0 in the all-time series vs. NKU.

Men's Basketball Knocks Off Marshall In Overtime

The Morehead State men's basketball team overcame a 21-point deficit against Conference USA opponent Marshall to post a 102-94 overtime win on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17) in front of 3,506 fans at MSU’s Johnson Arena.

After missing 25 free throws during regulation, the Eagles sank all 14 freebies in overtime.

"Everyone on our team who dressed played a part in this win," Head Coach Sean Woods said.  "Give Marshall a lot of credit.  They came in and took it to us early, but I am so proud of the resiliency of our team."

Junior Angelo Warner tallied a career-best 25 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the Morehead State men's basketball team to a 71-63 victory over East Tennessee State on Tuesday night at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Buccaneers slip to 0-2 overall.  MSU also moves to 28-24 in the all-time series with its fourth consecutive victory over ETSU.

Eagles Show Team Balance In Exhibition Victory

Morehead Hysteria Set For October 24

Morehead State will host Morehead Hysteria at Johnson Arena on Thursday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. The annual event is free of charge and will feature both 2013-14 Eagle basketball teams, along with the MSU cheerleaders and dance team.

The 34-time national champion cheerleading program will start the festivities, which will be followed by the introduction of the women's team at approximately 7:35 p.m.  A three-point contest and light scrimmage will be held following the introductions.

ESPNU To Showcase Men's Basketball

The Morehead State men's basketball game at Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 8, 2014 will be televised live by ESPNU.  Tip-off from McBrayer Arena in Richmond is set for 11 a.m.

Morehead State is now guaranteed four national television games in 2013-14.  The Eagles could add two more if they advance to the championship game of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

"Our national TV schedule is coming together very nicely," Head Coach Sean Woods said.  "We're excited that our product will be available to the entire country at least four times this season."

Former Eagle Signs With Australian Football League

Jason Holmes, who was a senior in the Morehead State basketball program during the 2012-13 season, has signed a two-year international rookie contract with the ST KILDA Football Club of the Australian Football League.

"Congratulations to Jason on this terrific accomplishment," Head Coach Sean Woods said.  "Jason is an intelligent young man who works extremely hard.  He overcame a lot during his college career, and I'm glad he has this opportunity in the AFL."

Season tickets for the 2013-14 Morehead State basketball seasons are now on sale. Fans have several packages to choose from. Both teams host 15 games in Johnson Arena.

"Season tickets are the best way for fans to support our teams and guarantee their seats for every game," Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs Darian Westerfield said. "We have many options to meet the needs of all our fans."

Warner Named To OVC All-Conference Team

Angelo Warner, a junior basketball player at Morehead State, has been tabbed by College Sports Madness as a Preseason, Second Team, All-Ohio Valley Conference selection.

"Angelo had a very good sophomore year, and we're expecting even more from him as a junior," Head Coach Sean Woods said.  "This will be Angelo's third season of Division I basketball, and we plan on him being a major contributor."

The Morehead State men's basketball team has picked up two more nationally-televised games for the upcoming season. The additions guarantee at least three national-TV appearances during the 2013-14 campaign.

Morehead State's Nov. 15 showdown at Xavier will be televised by FOX Sports 2, while its Nov. 22 contest at UCLA will be shown on the Pac-12 Networks.  The Eagles will also be featured on ESPNU when they travel to Tennessee on Dec. 23.

The Morehead State men's basketball game at Tennessee on December 23, 2013 will be televised live by ESPNU.  Tip-off from Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville is set for 7:00PM. The contest is one of thirty-one games on Morehead State's regular season schedule.  The date against the U-T Volunteers from the Southeastern Conference is also one of ten against post-season teams from a year ago.

Woods Receives National Recognition

Sean Woods, who begins his second year at Morehead State, is 14th on Hoop Scoop Online's national list of up-and-coming men's college basketball coaches.  Woods has 10 seasons of Division I coaching experience and has been a head coach the past five.

"I am grateful to be part of such a prestigious list. The success I've enjoyed over the years has been a by-product of terrific student-athletes, assistant coaches and support staff.  We have all of that going for us at MSU, which is why I'm excited about the 2013-14 season,” said Woods.
