Men's Hoops Finishes 3-0 In The Bahamas

Senior Karam Mashour posted game highs of 18 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Morehead State men's basketball team to a 112-55 exhibition pounding of the Pyramid Food Rockets on Monday evening (August 11) at Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.

Mashour finishes the Bahamas trip with 56 points (18.7 ppg) and 60 rebounds (20.0 rpg) in three contests. He connected on 25-of-49 from the field in 73 minutes. The UNLV transfer has played just five regular-season minutes in two years at Morehead State.

Men's Basketball Cruises For Second Exhibition Win

Senior Karam Mashour registered game highs of 16 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Morehead State men's basketball team to a lopsided 103-57 exhibition win over the Real Deal Shockers on Sunday afternoon (August 10) at Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.

The Eagles have now scored 218 points in two Bahamas affairs, while allowing just 126. MSU pounded the Grand Bahamas All-Stars, 115-69, in its exhibition opener on Saturday night.

The Morehead State men's basketball program has finalized a preseason trip to the Bahamas, which includes three exhibition games against international competition. The Eagles are scheduled to depart the morning of Aug. 8 and return to campus the evening of Aug. 13.

Morehead State is slated to face the Grand Bahamas All-Stars (Aug. 9), Real Deal Shockers (Aug. 10) and Pyramid Food Rockets (Aug. 11). All contests will be played at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau. Opposing teams will include former NCAA Division I and II players.

University of Tennessee vice chancellor and director of athletics Dave Hart announced Tuesday the hiring of Donnie Tyndall as the Volunteers' 19th men's basketball coach.

Tyndall is a 1993 Morehead State graduate.

The 43-year-old Tyndall joins Tennessee from Southern Mississippi, where he posted a 56-17 record (.767) in two seasons. He has averaged more than 21 wins during his eight seasons as a head coach with an overall record of 170-102 (.625), including six seasons at his alma mater, Morehead State, from 2006-07 through 2011-12. Tyndall played at MSU from 1990-93. 

Men's Basketball Ends Season At CBI Tournament

The Illinois State men's basketball team used a 16-2 run midway through the first half and never trailed again in a 77-67 win over Morehead State on Wednesday night (March 19) at Redbird Arena. The contest marked the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational.

The Redbirds, who finished 9-9 in Missouri Valley Conference action, improve to 17-15 overall and 13-3 at home. The Eagles, who finished 10-6 in Ohio Valley Conference play, end their season 20-14 overall and 9-7 on the road. ISU also improves to 6-1 all-time against MSU.

The Morehead State men's basketball team has accepted a bid to the 2014 College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Eagles are set to visit Missouri Valley Conference opponent Illinois State in the opening round on Wednesday (March 19) at 8 p.m.

Tickets will be available by calling the Illinois State ticket office at 309-438-8000 or visiting GoRedbirds.com.

The winner of Morehead State and Illinois State will face either Mountain West Conference opponent Wyoming or Southeastern Conference foe Texas A&M.

Warner Named To NABC All-District List

Morehead State junior Angelo Warner has landed Second-Team All-District accolades from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). He previously earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors from two different outlets.

"Angelo has received 2013-14 accolades from three different organizations, which shows the respect people have for him," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "Angelo is having a very consistent year for us. He's become a leader for this program, on and off the floor."

Belmont Ends Tournament For Men's Basketball

The Belmont men's basketball team knocked down 53 percent from the field on its way to an 86-63 win over Morehead State on Friday night (March 7) in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

The top-seeded Bruins, who have won 12 of their last 13 games, improve to 24-8 on the season. The fourth-seeded Eagles, who have dropped four of their last five, slip to 20-13 overall. BU ends up winning all three contests in the season series.

The field for the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Championship has been set after the final day of the regular season.

Belmont will be the No. 1 seed after winning the OVC regular-season championship for the second-straight year. Murray State took first place in the West Division and is the No. 2 seed. Under the league's merit-based bracketing system, both teams will receive double byes to Friday's semifinals.

The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds are Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. Both of those teams receive a single bye to Thursday's quarterfinals.

Murray State true freshman guard Cameron Payne scored 23 points and the Racer men's basketball team used a 10-0 first-half run en route to a 69-58 victory over Morehead State at the CFSB Center Saturday night (Feb. 22).

The Racers, who have won 11 straight home games and are now 13-1 on their home court this season, moved to 17-9 overall and 12-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Murray State has already clinched the league's West Division and a double-bye into the OVC Tournament semifinals.

Junior Angelo Warner hit a turnaround jump shot in the lane with less than one second remaining in double overtime Wednesday night (Feb. 19) to lift the Morehead State men's basketball team to a 90-88 victory over Austin Peay.

The Eagles, who have won 11 of their last 14 games and five consecutive Ohio Valley Conference games, improved to 19-9 overall, 10-3 in conference play and 9-3 at home. The Governors slipped to 11-16 overall, 5-8 in the league and 2-10 on the road.

The Morehead State men's basketball team used a 17-0 run in the second half to pull away for a 79-53 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Tennessee Tech Saturday night (Feb. 15) at the Eblen Center.

The Eagles, who have won 10 of their last 13 contests, improved to 18-9 overall, 9-3 in the league and 9-5 in road games. It was the Eagles' third straight road triumph, something that hadn't occurred since Feb. 4-15, 2012. MSU remained perfect in February at 4-0.

The Morehead State men's basketball knocked down its first 19 free-throw attempts in the second half, posted a 38-26 rebounding advantage and held on for a 69-67 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday evening (Feb. 13) at Mathews Coliseum.

The Eagles, who have won nine of their last 12 contests, improve to 17-9 overall, 8-3 in the league and 8-5 on the road. The Gamecocks, who have lost eight of their last 11, slip to 10-17 overall, 4-8 in the conference and 7-4 at home. The win also moves MSU to 19-8 in the all-time series against JSU.

Warner Receives OVC Honors

Morehead State junior Angelo Warner has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 3-9 after scoring a career-high 33 points in Saturday's (Feb. 8) 86-79 victory at rival Eastern Kentucky.

Warner, a 6-foot-2 guard, connected on 10-of-15 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point range and all 10 of his free-throw attempts in the nationally-televised game on ESPNU. The Eagles improved to 16-9 overall, 7-3 in the OVC and 7-5 on the road with the win.

The Eagles, who have won eight of their last 11 tilts, improve to 16-9 overall, 7-3 in the league and 7-5 on the road. The Colonels, who have still won seven of their last nine, drop to 17-8 overall, 7-4 in the conference and 10-2 at home. MSU also snaps a three-game skid against EKU.

The Morehead State men's basketball team knocked down 90 percent of its free-throw attempts on Thursday night (Jan. 16) at MSU’s Johnson Arena en route to an 80-67 victory over Ohio Valley Conference opponent Southeast Missouri.

"Hats off to our guys for getting this win," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "We needed this one badly after the way we played against Eastern Kentucky (on Saturday). We showed great character, a lot of poise and were resilient as a group."

The Colonels, who snap a two-game losing streak, move to 11-6 overall, 2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 5-4 on the road. The Eagles, who see their three-game winning streak end, slip to 11-7 overall, 2-1 in league play and 5-2 at home. EKU also improves to 106-75 in the all-time series.

Free Throws Send Eagles To Victory

The Morehead State men's basketball team connected on 25 of its last 26 free-throw attempts en route to an 85-77 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 4) at Lantz Arena.

The Eagles improve to 11-6 overall, 5-4 on the road and 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference with their fifth straight win over EIU. The Panthers slip to 4-10 overall, 3-4 at home and 0-2 in league play.

Men's Hoops Win OVC Opener

The Morehead State men's basketball team held SIU Edwardsville to 32 percent from the floor en route to a 70-63 victory on Thursday evening (Jan. 2) at the Vadalabene Center. The Eagles improve to 10-6 overall and 4-4 on the road, while the Cougars slip to 3-11 on the season and 3-3 at home. MSU also moves to 5-1 in the all-time series with its third straight win over SIUE.

Thursday was the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams. MSU has now won its first league tilt in five of the past six years. The Eagles have also already matched last year's road wins total.

Men's Basketball Falls To Tennessee

The Tennessee men's basketball team posted advantages of 49-28 in rebounds and 20-6 in second-chance points en route to an 82-67 win over Morehead State before a crowd of 15,207 on Monday night (Dec. 23) at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Southeastern Conference Volunteers improve to 7-4 on the season and 5-1 at home. The Ohio Valley Conference Eagles fall to 8-6 overall and 3-4 on the road. Tennessee also improves to 4-0 in the all-time series against Morehead State.

Kelly Named OVC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

Morehead State senior Drew Kelly, who posted career highs of 40 points, 12 rebounds, 14 field goals and eight three-pointers on Thursday, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 16-22.

Kelly, a 6-foot-6 senior, has been recognized by both the league office and College Sports Madness.

Senior Drew Kelly, playing in his 102nd Morehead State men's basketball game, erupted for career highs of 40 points, 12 rebounds, 14 field goals and eight three-pointers in a 120-83 win over South Dakota on Thursday evening (Dec. 19) at MSU’s Johnson Arena.

"Drew certainly brought it tonight," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "We had a recent heart-to-heart about this being his last season and how we're not going to be successful if he doesn't bring it every night. Everyone is rooting for Drew, and that's why this performance was so great to see."

MSU Basketball Hosts Food Drive

Morehead State Athletics, in conjunction with its basketball teams, has announced a promotion for Wednesday's (Dec. 18) women's basketball contest with Berea and Thursday's (Dec. 19) men's basketball matchup versus South Dakota.

Those attending the games are being asked to donate canned goods. Each can donated may earn $1 off general admission tickets. The items will be donated to Christian Social Services in Morehead.
