Senior guard Xavier Moon scored a game-high 26 points, his fifth 20-point game in 2016-17, but the Morehead State men's basketball team came out on the short end of a 76-73 Ohio Valley Conference contest at Tennessee Tech Thursday night.

Morehead State (9-12/5-2 OVC) opened the game on a 12-0 run, but it was held to just 31 percent (9-of-29) shooting in the final half when TTU (9-14/5-3) outscored the Eagles 40-31. Tech nailed 11 three-pointers on the night, including eight in the final 20 minutes.

Morehead State men's basketball added to its hot streak of now five wins in the past six outings, defeating Eastern Kentucky by a final score of 80-54 in front of a raucous crowd on Saturday night at Johnson Arena.

"We put goals on the (locker room) board every game, and we accomplished a bunch of those goals tonight," said interim head Preston Spradlin. "As a result, you get a really big win in front of a special crowd."

Morehead State men's basketball (7-11, 3-2 Ohio Valley Conference) picked up an 87-85 win over Tennessee State (12-6, 3-2 OVC) in a down-to-the-wire thriller on Saturday night.

Tied at 85 with the game's final 10 seconds ticking away, DeJuan Marrero received the ball on the high post and began backing his man down to the basket. The Tennessee State defense collapsed, allowing Marrero to find senior forward Treshaad Williams with a window of open space underneath the basket.

Morehead State men's basketball (6-11, 2-2 Ohio Valley Conference) dropped an 84-78 decision to Belmont (10-4, 4-0 OVC) Thursday night, despite an electric atmosphere in the season's first nationally televised game at Johnson Arena.

Down four with 22 seconds to go, Morehead State guard Xavier Moon grabbed a crucial rebound off the front end of a one-and-one at the defensive end. Miguel Dicent received the outlet pass, but came up short on a tightly contested jumper after 10 seconds of steadfast defense from the Bruins.

Morehead State men's basketball picked up its second straight Ohio Valley Conference win Saturday evening via a 73-65 decision over SIU Edwardsville at Johnson Arena. With the victory, the Eagles improve to 6-10 (2-1 OVC) on the season.

Senior forward Treshaad Williams connected on a perfect 12-of-12 from the field, good for a career-high 24 points. The 6-foot-5 Nashville, Ga. native added eight rebounds, two assists, and a block over just 19 minutes as a starter.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-9 on the year, while the Bulldogs improve to 8-3.

Trailing by 11 points with just over six minutes to go, Morehead State men's basketball rallied to force overtime, before ultimately falling at Eastern Washington, 88-86, on Tuesday night.

The loss marks the seventh straight for the Eagles as they fall to 2-7 on the year. EWU improved to 8-2 and they are a perfect 7-0 at home.

Morehead State University officials announced today (Tuesday, November 22) that head basketball coach Sean Woods has been suspended with pay, effective immediately.

"Resulting from complaints received, the institution has begun an investigation involving the head basketball coach. While we continue through the formal process, we believe it is prudent to suspend the coach until the investigation is finished," said Brian Hutchinson, director of athletics.

The Morehead State men's basketball team received two first-place votes and has been picked third in the OVC Eastern Division by OVC media.

The OVC will release its preseason poll and All-OVC team, as voted on by league head coaches and sports information directors, on Wednesday, October 26 during the league's annual Media Day in Nashville.

The media panel picked Belmont as the preseason favorites. Belmont senior forward Evan Bradds was tabbed the OVC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year.

The Eagles will have two more ESPN telecasts if they advance to the championship game of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Former Morehead State men's basketball standout Anthony Elechi has signed to play with the Glasgow Rocks of the British Basketball League (BBL).

Formerly known as the Scottish Rocks and Edinburgh Rocks, Glasgow is the only BBL team to be based in Scotland, playing at the Emirates Arena.

Morehead State has finalized its 2016-17 men's basketball schedule.

The 30-game slate features 15 home games, highlighted by contests at Johnson Arena against OVC foes Belmont on Jan. 14, Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 21, and Murray State on Feb. 8. The Eagles will travel to ACC member Pittsburgh on Nov. 25, Big Ten member Purdue on Dec. 3, and SEC member Mississippi State on Dec. 22.

Morehead State overcame a 13-point second half deficit to force overtime, but Xavier Moon's half court heave as time expired went in-and-out as the Eagles fell 85-82 at Nevada in the decisive game three of the CBI Finals on Friday night.

With the loss, Morehead State concludes the season at 23-14, marking the most wins for the Eagles since they went 25-10 in 2010-11.

Four players scored in double figures as Morehead State downed Ohio, 77-72, in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational at the Convocation Center on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Eagles improve their record to 22-12 and advance to the championship game of the CBI. They will host either Vermont or Nevada at Johnson Arena on Monday, March 28 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Ohio ends their season with a record of 23-12.

Morehead State, which is 21-12 overall and finished 11-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play, has earned its fifth postseason appearance in the past eight seasons. The Eagles played in the 2009 and 2011 NCAA Tournaments, in addition to the 2010 and 2014 CBI.

The Eagles improved to 21-12 on the season and the win pushes them into the semifinals of the CBI. The Dukes' season comes to close with a 17-17 record.
