A three-time All-OVC Postseason Team selection, including twice being named First Team All-OVC, and the third all-time leading scorer in Morehead State women's basketball history, Miranda Crockett can add another honor to her resume.
The Martinsville, Va. native has been named a nominee for the prestigious National Collegiate Athletic Association's Woman of the Year. Crockett joins fellow Eagle Jessie Wachtman and Hayley Baker (Belmont), Susie Jeziorowski (Tennessee Tech), Tamdra Lawrence (Murray State), Grace Lennox (Eastern Illinois), Kristen Stucker (Austin Peay), Erin Torrence (Eastern Kentucky), and Lidia Yanes Garcia (Austin Peay) as nominees from OVC institutions.
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
This season, a record 585 student-athletes competing across 23 sports across all three NCAA divisions have been nominated. Of the 585 nominees, 282 hail from NCAA Division I institutions.
On the court, Crockett was a steady force for the Eagles, playing in 127 games throughout her four-year career, starting all but one. She amassed 1,830 points in a Morehead State uniform while shooting 49 percent from the floor. Crockett also averaged 33.0 minutes per game in her career, becoming a fixture on the court.
For her efforts, Crockett was twice named First Team All-OVC following her junior and senior campaigns while also being named Second Team All-OVC after her sophomore season. Crockett also racked up numerous conference weekly awards, winning seven OVC Freshman of the Week honors and three OVC Player of the Week nods throughout her career.
In the classroom, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Convergent Media, graduating in May 2019. While pursuing her degree, Crockett maintained a 3.12-grade point average, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout her academic career.
In accordance with her study of convergent media, Crockett produced a short film named "Forgotten Stories" which highlights and promotes mental health awareness among the student-athlete community. Additionally, she developed and produced videos for a Morehead State women's basketball social media campaign named "One on One Wednesday".
Off the court, Crockett was also quite active in the Morehead, Ky. community, volunteering with multiple organizations in the community. She, along with other members of the Morehead State women's basketball program, volunteered with numerous churches in the community to wrap Christmas presents, worked fall festivals at local elementary schools, volunteered with local youth basketball leagues, and served guests at the local soup kitchen.
