Women's Basketball's Jeune scores third OVC Newcomer honor

MSU Athletics

Junior guard Aliyah Jeune has been tabbed as the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week after averaging 24.5 points per contest in Morehead State women's basketball's weekend split on the road at Murray State and Austin Peay.

Jeune led all scorers with 28 points off the bench in the Eagles' 83-61 win at Murray State on Thursday. The 6-foot-1 guard was 11-of-23 from the field while also knocking down four triples. Jeune also chipped in with three assists and seven rebounds as she helped lead her team to its largest victory ever over the in-state foes on the road.

"The Murray State game was a great game for Aliyah," said MSU head coach Greg Todd. "I thought she made great decisions, took smart shots, and played well defensively as she was matched up with one of their best players quite a bit. It was gutty performance by her and one of her best outings of the season."

The Westhampton, N.J., native followed her 28-point game up with her first-career start in Morehead State's nail-biting 81-80 loss to Austin Peay on Saturday. Jeune netted 21 points while also pulling home seven rebounds and dishing out four assists in 39 minutes of action against the Governors.

Jeune has now been awarded the OVC's Newcomer of the Week award three times during the 2018-19 campaign.

The Eagles and Jeune next take the court against OVC foe Belmont on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. ET. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
