Women's Basketball's Alford Selected as OVC Freshman of the Week

MSU Athletics

Morehead State Women's Basketball's Tomiyah Alford has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.

Alford finished one-point off the game-high against nationally-ranked Michigan State on Sunday, posting 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. The Barnesville, Ga., native also assisted on two buckets in the game.

"Tomiyah had a great game against a Michigan State," said MSU head coach Greg Todd. "She shot the ball at an impressive clip. Happy for her to receive this recognition."

For the 2019-20 season, Alford averages 8.6 points on 42% shooting. On the defensive end, Alford's 1.7 steals per game is tops on the squad.

The award is the first of Alford's rookie campaign and the second consecutive freshman of the week award for the team after guard Ariel Kirkwood was named the top performer in the league a week ago.

Alford and the Eagles conclude a two-game road trip at Valparasio on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET before returning home to face off with Asbury (Ky.) on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. ET.
