Women's Basketball Battles to End in Non-Conference Finale at No.6 Baylor

MSU Athletics

In its final non-conference game of the 2019-20 season, the Morehead State Women's Basketball team dropped a 94-47 decision to the No.6 Baylor Lady Bears on Monday evening at the Ferrell Center.

Despite the final margin, the Eagles battled the defending NCAA National Champions to the final horn. Morehead State trailed Baylor 56-21 at halftime but showed grit in the second half, playing to a 38-26 margin.

"I was pleased with our effort tonight - especially in the second half," said MSU head coach Greg Todd. "In the first half I thought we didn't rotate back on defense or help on their post players like we wanted but we addressed it halftime and came out with a better effort and finished the game strong."

Senior guard Breuna Jackson led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting which included three makes from beyond the arc. Junior guard Jazzmyn Elston posted her second consecutive double-figure scoring effort with 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting with two makes from three-point range.

The Lady Bears were led by sophomore forward Nalyssa Smith's double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Morehead State will now turn its attention to Ohio Valley Conference play as it welcomes Jacksonville State to Johnson Arena on Thursday. The Eagles and Gamecocks are slated for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
