Wilson Ties Eagle Record as Rifle Falls to Murray State

MSU Athletics

The No. 17 Morehead State Rifle team came up short Sunday to No. 2 Murray State 4,692-4,584, in the Ohio State Buckeye Open at Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range.

Sophomore Haley Wilson led the way for the Eagles, collecting personal-best scores throughout the day. She shot a combined score of 1,166, tying former Eagle Ethan Cole for the MSU aggregate record.

Wilson fired 198 in smallbore prone and 189 in smallbore standing, both personal bests for her. She finished with a total of 579 in smallbore, also a personal best. Wilson's previous best was 570. She capped off her day by shooting a 587 in air rifle.

As a team, MSU continues to build week by week. In air rifle, the Eagles shot a season-high 2,313. In smallbore, they racked up their second highest score of the season with a 2,271, only to be outdone by last week's performance of 2,283.

Along with Wilson's performance, freshman Melanie West shot a personal best in smallbore standing with a 176.

After back-to-back weeks of going on the road to face Murray State, MSU will shoot in the friendly confines of Button Range to take on OVC rival and No. 13-ranked Jacksonville State Saturday morning.
