Warner Receives OVC Honors

MSU Athletics

Morehead State junior Angelo Warner has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 3-9 after scoring a career-high 33 points in Saturday's (Feb. 8) 86-79 victory at rival Eastern Kentucky.

Warner, a 6-foot-2 guard, connected on 10-of-15 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point range and all 10 of his free-throw attempts in the nationally-televised game on ESPNU. The Eagles improved to 16-9 overall, 7-3 in the OVC and 7-5 on the road with the win.

Warner has reached double figures 52 times in 89 career games and the 20-point mark on 10 occasions. The Orlando native also ranks in the OVC's top 10 for minutes played (3rd, 35.0), steals (4th, 1.9), scoring (6th, 17.6) and free-throw percentage (T-6th, .818).

Morehead State, which occupies second in the OVC's East Division, has already surpassed last year's victory total (15) and road wins mark (4). MSU continues to be on pace for its first 20-win season since 2010-11, when it upset Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.

Warner notches his third OVC weekly honor this season and his second from the league office. He shares the award with Belmont senior J.J. Mann, who recorded 26.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game last week in wins over Murray State and Austin Peay.

The Eagles continue their three-game road trip on Thursday (Feb. 13) at Jacksonville State (8 p.m.) and Saturday (Feb. 15) at Tennessee Tech (approximately 8:30 p.m.). Both tilts will be available free of charge on OVCDigitalNetwork.com and broadcast by the Eagle Sports Network.
