Volleyball's Nine Blocks Not Enough Versus Austin Peay

MSU Athletics

In a matchup of the two top teams in the Ohio Valley Conference, Morehead State volleyball dropped a tight contest with host Austin Peay. The Governors (14-2, 4-0 OVC) nipped the Eagles (12-5, 3-1) in three sets, 25-21, 25-14, and 27-25.

At the net, Morehead State blocked nine total shots made up of four solo blocks and 10 block assists. Redshirt senior middle blocker Jessie Wachtman paced the Eagles' block with four total blocks, including a solo block. Seniors Jordan Jones and Maddie Fella each turned away three blocks apiece with Fella notching a pair of solo blocks. Redshirt sophomore Chandler Clark and sophomores Oliva Lohmeier and Lauren Rokey also totaled blocks in the match.

Elsewhere defensively, a pair of back row players registered double-digit digs for the Eagles who totaled 58 digs on the afternoon. Redshirt freshman defensive specialist Taylor Hodges and freshman libero Allison Whitten each dug up 11 balls apiece. Clark and Lohmeier fell just short of double-digit digs, recording nine and eight digs respectively.

On the attack, Morehead State hit an uncharacteristic .126 in the match, totaling just 29 kills while committing 15 attack errors. Lohmeier led all Eagles hitters, recording nine kills, hitting .233. Rokey added seven kills while Jones and Wachtman added five kills apiece to top the score sheet for Morehead State. Clark dished out 26 assists in the match to reach 25 or more assists for the 17th time this season.

Morehead State returns to action next weekend, traveling to the Music City for the annual Belmont-Tennessee State swing. The Eagles face the Bruins on Friday (7 p.m ET) before heading across town to face the Tigers (1 p.m.) on Saturday.
