MSU Athletics

Morehead State volleyball sophomore Lauren Rokey has been named Preseason All-OVC, the league announced Tuesday (Aug. 14)

The Eureka, Ill., native ranked among Ohio Valley Conference leaders in kills, ranking sixth in kills per set (3.13) and 10th in total kills (310). Rokey also ranked eighth in the league in points per set with 3.64 and 10th in total points with 360.5.

"I am excited about how many great returning players we have this year and am proud that Lauren is representing all of them on the Preseason All-OVC Team," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "She is a great all-around player who has been working hard to build on a strong freshman season."

During the 2017 season, Rokey was twice named OVC Newcomer of the Week, garnering the honor on Sep. 4 and Oct. 30. During the week of Sep. 4, she totaled 42 kills in four matches, including a career-high 17 kills versus Davidson. In earning her second season honor, Rokey tallied 29 kills and a .328 attack percentage.

"Lauren is also the type of athlete who places her team first and is more focused on how she can fulfill whatever role is needed than any individual accolades," added Gordon.

Rokey and her Eagle teammates received 129 votes from league head coaches and sports information directors, slotting sixth in the preseason predicted order of finish.

Morehead State gets the season rolling on Friday, hosting Bellarmine at Wetherby Gym in the team's only exhibition match. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
