MSU Athletics

For the first time since 2012, Morehead State volleyball earned an All-American selection, garnering two picks from VolleyballMag.com.

Junior outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier and freshman setter Bridget Bessler earned the honors for the Eagles, collecting Honorable Mention All-American and Honorable Mention Freshman All-American honors, respectively.

The pair marks the first All-Americans for the Morehead State volleyball program since 2012 when Ellie Roberson took home American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American Honors. The pair are also the fourth and fifth All-Americans in program history joining Roberson, Katelyn Barbour (2008) and Holly Evans (2010).

Lohmeier and Bessler continue to add to their impressive career accolades list with their selections as All-Americans. The honors mark the second major postseason honor for both Lohmeier and Bessler as Lohmeier was named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region Team and Bessler the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.

During her junior campaign, Lohmeier crafted one of the best seasons by a Morehead State attacker in program history. She collected a junior-class record 564 kills, a total which also represents the best single-season total in the Rally Scoring Era in program history.

Lohmeier wrapped the 2019 season ranked top-10 in the NCAA in both total kills and points, ranking eighth and seventh, respectively.

In her rookie campaign, Bessler was one of the top freshman setters in the country, ranking fifth amongst the nation's freshmen in total assists and second in assists per set. She passed out 1,176 assists on the season, averaging 11.42 assists per set, totals that ranked third and led the OVC. Bessler's assists per set total also ranked among the best in the country, placing 12th in the NCAA during the 2019 season.
