Volleyball Drops Tight Match at Jacksonville State

Playing the program's first Sunday match since 1998, Morehead State volleyball dropped a tightly contested match on the road at Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks (9-7, 3-1 OVC) downed the Eagles (12-4, 3-1) by scores of 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 19-17.

Racking up 24 kills in yesterday afternoon's match, junior outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier eclipsed 20 kills for the second consecutive match, recording 25 kills Sunday afternoon. She recorded her 25 kills on 56 attacks, committing just four errors to hit .375 for the match.

Joining Lohmeier in double-figures were junior outside hitter Lauren Rokey and sophomore middle blocker Mia Swearingen who collected 11 kills apiece. Redshirt junior Liz Allen, freshman setter Bridget Bessler, and sophomore middle blocker Hannah Keating each added eight kills as Morehead State collected 72 total kills in the match.

As a team, the Eagles hit.294 for the match with 61 of the team's kills being assisted. Bessler paced Morehead State with 52 kills over the match's five-set duration.

Patrolling the backline, sophomore libero Allison Whitten and sophomore Olivia Montelisciani collected double-digit digs, scooping up 14 and 11 balls, respectively. At the net, Keating deterred a career-high six attacks while Lohmeier added a season-high-tying four blocks, including the Eagles' lone solo block. For the match, Morehead State collected 60 digs and 10 total blocks.

Montelisciani and Whitten combined to land Morehead State's three service aces with Whitten leading the way with two.

Morehead State returns to action Wednesday, hosting in-state rival Eastern Kentucky to kick off a three-game homestand. Match time is set for 6 p.m. ET at Johnson Arena.
