Track and Field Scores High Marks in First Outdoor Meet of 2019

Junior Aaron Wier claimed victory in the 5,000-meter race, the men's 4x800 relay team won its race and senior Mya Faris represented the women's squad with a second place showing in the 5K at the Charlotte 49er Classic this weekend.

It was the first outdoor meet of the year for both teams.

Wier ran the 5K invitational race in 14:22, winning by just more than nine seconds. The relay team of sophomores Darby Pillow, Cody Chism and Mikah Bailey, plus freshman Cole Clever ran to victory in their race with a time of 7:58.54. It was just two seconds off the school-record time.

On the women's side, Faris was second among 49 racers with a time of 18:14.35.

Other notable efforts included:

*Junior Shelby Watkins (7th in the 5K with a time of 18:27.72)

* Senior Jordan Carington (6th in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 3:54.10

* Senior Justin Moakler (3rd in the 5K Invite with a time of 14:40.07)

The next event for the Eagle teams are at the Raleigh Relays on March 29-30.
