Three Baseball Eagles Named Preseason All-OVC

MSU Athletics

Morehead State baseball seniors Brandon Rawe, Chris Robinson and Kane Sweeney have been named to the official 15-member Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference Team, as selected by the league's head coaches and sports information contacts.

MSU had the highest number of student-athletes named to the preseason team.

A native of Mathews, N.C., Rawe shattered Morehead State's single-season hits record with 98 last year. He ranked among all Division I players in hits (4th), total bases (8th), doubles (16th) and slugging percentage (28th). Rawe also posted a team-best 30 multi-hit performances.

Rawe was a First-Team All-OVC selection in 2014. He was also tabbed Second-Team All-South Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Robinson, from Uxbridge, Ontario, ranked second on the team and led all OVC catchers with 75 hits while producing a .332 batting average. He drove in 40 runs and led the squad with eight stolen bases. He ranked third on the team with 24 multi-hit games and second with 10 multi-RBI efforts.

He was named Second-Team All-OVC last season.

Sweeney, a native of Millstadt, Ill., tied Rawe for the team lead in RBI with 48. He batted .309 with 17 doubles and nine home runs, including three grand slams. He also led the team with 42 walks. Sweeney was named the Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America National Hitter of the Week on May 20.

Morehead State was selected fifth in the preseason poll. Defending regular-season title holder Southeast Missouri was selected first, followed Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay.

The Eagles begin their 2015 season on Feb. 13 with a three-day, four-game set at San Diego.
