Threats at Rowan County Senior High unfounded

Facebook

Some students at Rowan County Senior High School and their parents were panicked Monday after some alleged threats, but the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department says the incident was entirely rumor-based.

A call was made to the department by a parent Sunday saying some students of color were being targeted for an assault.  The parent said they were informed by another parent whose daughter had seen a Snapchat post making the claim.

However, Sheriff Matt Sparks says many hours were spent trying to find if there was any merit to the situation, and they came up empty.

A student bringing a gun to the school was among the rumors heard by the department, but that too was unfounded.

Some community members took to social media to express their concern about the school not being locked down during the investigation.  Sheriff Sparks says his department will always err on the side of caution, and it was decided a lockdown was unnecessary after being unable to find any trace of a threat.

By the time it was all said and done, Sheriff Sparks says it was determined threats had not been seen on Snapchat to begin with.
