Temporary closures of US 60, KY 32 in Rowan County for drainage replacements

National Capital Industries

Two Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement projects on US 60 and KY 32 in Rowan County will require temporary road closures next week.

US 60 closed Tuesday, June 18 @ Lakeside Christian

Beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, contractors will close US 60 near Lakeside Christian Academy (milepoint 5.4) to trench across the roadway and install a new drainage system underneath it. The road will remain closed to all traffic for at least 12 hours, or until work is complete.

During the US 60 closure, motorists should seek alternate routes. Thru traffic may detour using KY 180, I-64 and KY 32 through Morehead, or other routes.

The work is part of a KYTC highway safety improvement project that will create left- and right-turn lanes at the school. Work is being done under a $619,887.47 contract awarded to The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc.

KY 32 closed Wednesday, June 19 @ East of Seas Branch

Beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, contractors will close KY 32 (Christy Creek Road) at milepoint 13.55 just east of Seas Branch Road to trench across the highway and install a new aluminum box culvert. The road will remain closed between Seas Branch and Veterans Lane throughout the day until work is complete.

During the KY 32 closure, thru traffic should seek alternate routes. Local traffic may detour using KY 3318 (Open Fork), US 60 and KY 174 through Hays Crossing.

The work is part of a $1.4 million highway improvement project that began this winter along 5 miles of Christy Creek Road (KY 32) and includes new drainage, new blacktop from Morehead east to Veterans Lane, and hillside excavations near Patties Lick Road to improve sight distance on the highway – that is, increase how far drivers can see around the curve there.

Work is being done under a $1,406,981.94 low-bid federal HSIP (highway safety improvement project) contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to the Frederick & May Construction Company.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
