Culvert replacements for a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement project will require KY 32 to close June 26 and July 1 at two locations along Christy Creek in Rowan County.
KY 32 closed Wednesday, June 26
Beginning at 8 a.m. this Wednesday, June 26, contractors will close KY 32 just west – on the Morehead side – of Messer Road at milepoint 11.02, which is about a mile west of Patties Lick Road, to trench across the highway and install a new aluminum box culvert. The road will remain closed until about 8 p.m., or until work is complete.
KY 32 closed Monday, July 1
Then, beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, July 1, contractors will close KY 32 about 3 tenths of a mile east of Tackett Branch Road to install another aluminum box culvert on Lambert Branch of Christy Creek. The road will remain closed until about 8 p.m., or until work is complete.
During each road closure, thru traffic on KY 32 should seek alternate routes or may detour using KY 3318 (Open Fork), US 60 and KY 174 through Hays Crossing. Message boards will be used to communicate traffic changes.
The work is part of a $1.4 million highway improvement project that began this winter along 5 miles of Christy Creek Road (KY 32) and includes new drainage, new blacktop from Morehead east to Veterans Lane, and hillside excavations near Patties Lick Road to improve sight distance on the highway – that is, increase how far drivers can see around the curve there. Work is being done under a $1,406,981.94 low-bid federal HSIP (highway safety improvement project) contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to the Frederick & May Construction Company.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
