Straight-Set Sweep Caps Off Volleyball's Perfect Weekend

MSU Athletics

In Saturday's nightcap, Morehead State improved to 3-0 in the Blue and Gold Tournament with a straight-set victory over Duquesne. The Eagles (8-2) defeated the Dukes (4-5) 25-23, 25-17, and 25-19 in three sets.

A perfect tournament led to Morehead State placing three players on the Blue and Gold All-Tournament, including tournament most valuable player redshirt senior Jessie Wachtman. The middle blocker from Pickerington, Ohio slammed home 26 kills on the weekend, hitting .309 for the event. She also added five blocks at the net. Redshirt junior Danielle McCarson and sophomore Lauren Rokey were also named to the all-tournament roster.

In the match with Duquesne, Wachtman led the way offensively with 12 winners, hitting .409, committing just three errors on 22 swings. Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier added 10 kills to reach double-digits for the third straight match and the seventh time this season.

Redshirt sophomore setter Chandler Clark dished out 31 assists, helping her team to a .207 hitting percentage. She also added nine digs, finishing just short of her fifth double-double of the season.

Defensively, freshman libero Allison Whitten paced the Eagles with 17 digs, recording double-digits for the third consecutive match. The double-digit digs marked the eighth time she's recorded 10 or more digs this season. McCarson added 14 digs, giving the Eagles a pair of back row players with 10 plus digs.

Junior Karlee Reynolds led the Eagles at the net, blocking three total shots. Lohmeier added two blocks, while Wachtman and redshirt sophomore Liz Allen each added a block apiece.

Morehead State remains on the road next weekend at the West Virginia Classic in Morgantown, W.Va. The two-day, four-team event wraps up the Eagles' non-conference slate as they take on host West Virginia, Wake Forest, and Penn.
