Steps for the NEST Challenge raises money for student support fund

Morehead State University alumni and friends are stepping up to help students by taking actual steps for a worthy cause. 

From May 18 through May 22, MSU held a Steps for the NEST Challenge, where participants commit to taking 10,000 steps per day (50,000 steps total) to raise money for the NEST Fund. Over 100 individuals signed up to participate, taking 4,196,168 steps and raising $2,340.  

Special recognition was also given to the following award winners:

Eagle Who Took the Most Steps: Vicki Collins Blakeman (81) – 135,040

Eagle Who Took the Most Steps “Honorable Mention”: Cheryl Stegall Blevins (87) – 113,090

Eagle Who Reached 50,000 Steps Goal First: Kathryn Rogers (07)

Youngest Eagle Participant: Ava June Tackett

Most Senior Eagle Participant: Clyde I. James (65)

The NEST (Needs for Students in Trying Times) Fund is a newly established fund created to support students during times of hardship and transition. It covers support to three primary sources of student aid: Eagle Essentials, the SHARE Fund and the Eagle Emergency Loan Fund.

Paul Hitchcock earned his Masters in Communications from Morehead State University and Bachelors in Radio-TV/Psychology from Georgetown College. A veteran broadcaster for more than 40 years and an avid fan of blues, jazz and American roots music. Hitchcock has been with WMKY since 1986 and was named General Manager in 2003. He currently hosts "Muddy Bottom Blues" (Fri., 8pm-9pm), "Nothin' But The Blues" (Sat., 8pm-12am), "Sunday Night Jazz Showcase" and "Live From The Jazz Lounge" (Sun., 8pm-9pm) and "The Golden Age of Radio" (Sun., 2pm-3pm). He also serves as producer for "A Time For Tales" and "The Reader's Notebook."
