State Highways Clearing Up in NE Kentucky as Plow Crews Make Progress

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Kentucky Department of Highways crews have made progress clearing snow from state highways in northeast Kentucky.

As of 5:30 p.m., main Priority A routes such as I-64, US 23, US 60, KY 32, US 62, US 68, KY 11, KY 67, AA Highway, and other heavily-traveled highways are mostly clear in Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, and Rowan counties.

Most lesser-traveled Priority B and C routes are partly to mostly covered with a hard snowpack, with generally better conditions northward where less snow fell.

Plow crews will continue working tonight to break loose the snowpack and will return Saturday for a third day of cleanup when rising temperatures will make salt more effective.

Currently, air temperatures are 15 degrees and falling. Pavement temps are 31 to 32 degrees. With single-digit lows expected overnight, black ice will be an issue on all roads.

If you must travel, use extreme caution – especially in valleys, at bridges, culverts, and other cold spots – take it slow, leave space between vehicles, and give yourself plenty of time to arrive safely.
