St. Claire Regional Welcomes New Behavioral Health Unit Medical Director

St. Claire Regional (SCR) is proud to welcome CletusCarvalho, M.D., board certified psychiatrist, to our Medical Staff. Dr. Carvalho will serve as Medical Director for our Behavioral Health Unit.

With more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Carvalho comes to SCR from UK HealthCare where he held a variety of positions, most recently Medical Director of the Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Psychiatry.

He also taught at the University of Kentucky, serving as Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Psychiatry residency training program. He is board certified in Geriatric Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Carvalho received his medical degree from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in India and completed residencies in New York City at St. Vincent’s Hospital & Medical Center and Columbia University.

Dr. Carvalho lives in Lexington and has two daughters, Shelby, 19 and Mia, 12. Shelby is currently a pre-Med sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago, while Mia is a bright 7th grade student who excels in dance. “It has been wonderful to watch them grow, and I’m very thankful to be an important part of who they have become and will be in the future,” says Dr. Carvalho.

Paul Hitchcock earned his Masters in Communications from Morehead State University and Bachelors in Radio-TV/Psychology from Georgetown College. A veteran broadcaster for more than 40 years and an avid fan of blues, jazz and American roots music. Hitchcock has been with WMKY since 1986 and was named General Manager in 2003. He currently hosts "Muddy Bottom Blues" (Fri., 8pm-9pm), "Nothin' But The Blues" (Sat., 8pm-12am), "Sunday Night Jazz Showcase" and "Live From The Jazz Lounge" (Sun., 8pm-9pm) and "The Golden Age of Radio" (Sun., 2pm-3pm). He also serves as producer for "A Time For Tales" and "The Reader's Notebook."
