St. Claire HealthCare Welcomes Wendy Lykins, APRN, to Sandy Hook Clinic

St. Claire HealthCare

St. Claire HealthCare (SCH) announces the addition of Wendy Lykins, APRN, to its medical staff. Wendy is now accepting new patients at the St. Claire Family Medicine Sandy Hook location where she joins Aaron Banks, DO, and Megan McDowell, APRN.

“I’ve always really enjoyed helping people, so I’ve always known I wanted to be a nurse,” says Wendy. “I remember telling my mom early on that I wanted to be a nurse. I’m really happy that I stuck with that decision.”

Wendy finds that the most rewarding thing about her career is serving the people of rural Eastern Kentucky, where she calls home.

“I love that I am able to serve the community near my home in West Liberty, Ky., and make a difference for the people I truly care about. I often said ‘As soon as I graduate, I’m going back home to work.’ And I did!” she says.

Wendy brings over 28 years of nursing experience to St. Claire, with much of her time spent in the emergency department setting before transitioning to primary care. She found the emergency room to be enjoyable with the fast pace and constant change, but she knew she wanted to advance in her career.

“I went back to school at the University of Kentucky to become a nurse practitioner,” says Wendy. “I didn’t even realize what I was missing in the emergency department. In the clinic, you get to actually spend time with your patients and have the opportunity to form a deeper relationship with them. After 14 years in a clinic setting, you realize that you grow with your patients … Raising their kids with them. Seeing their kids have kids. It’s very rewarding.”

In Wendy’s world, family is everything. She is married to Chase Frederick, and together they have three children … twin 8-year-old boys and a 7-year-old girl.

When asked what she enjoyed doing in her spare time, Wendy responded with a smile, “Oh honey! I’ve got three little youngins’ and we live on a farm. We’re always busy, but when we get the chance, we love riding four-wheelers and horses together.”

Wendy is excited to be joining SCH and felt drawn to the mission of proclaiming God’s goodness through a healing ministry to the people of Eastern Kentucky.
