Soccer's Angela Black Named OVC Defensive Player of the Week

Morehead State Athletics

Following a double-overtime shutout of Chattanooga on Sept. 4, Morehead State defender Angela Black was named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Black, a 5-foot-4 senior from St. Louis, was an integral part of back-to-back double overtime matches at Jayne Stadium last weekend. She attempted a shot on goal in both the home-opening 3-2 win over Evansville and in the 0-0 tie with Chattanooga.

As one of just two seniors and four total upperclassmen on the Eagles roster, Black has stepped into a leadership role during her final season in Morehead. After leading the team in shot attempts as a junior, the former 2013 OVC Freshman of the Year was asked to make the switch from forward to defender this season. She now ranks third on the team in minutes played, and is one of three Eagles to record an assist through the first five matches of 2016.

Belmont's Brittany Coca was named OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week alongside Black.
