Slip closes KY 2 at North Fork hill in Greenup County

WAFB

An embankment slip has closed KY 2 in Greenup County at North Fork hill (milepoint 8.8) until further notice.

The slip occurred overnight about 2.5 miles from the KY 7 intersection along a previously-repaired embankment just east of North Fork Road, and has broken the pavement at least halfway across driving lanes causing the road surface to collapse a foot or more.

As a traffic safety precaution, KY 2 will remain closed there to all thru traffic until further notice. Engineers will assess the situation today and begin planning repairs.

State highway crews have placed barricades on KY 2 at the top and bottom of the hill at North Fork Road. Message boards warning motorists have been placed at key locations, including at the US 23 intersection at Greenup. Schools and officials have been notified.

Motorists should detour using KY 827 and KY 7, or KY 1459, KY 784 and local routes.
