Setters' Lone Goal Puts Eagles on Top

MSU Athletics

Morehead State saw their defense shine once again as they continued to climb up the OVC standings with a 1-0 victory Thursday night over Austin Peay.

The win moves the Eagles to 4-6-3 on the season and 2-1-1 in league play. The Eagles also continued their stellar play at home, improving to 4-1-1 at MSU Recreation and Wellness Field this season.

The match was a defensive struggle for both sides, but the Eagles were able to control the pace for much of the night, outshooting the Governors 10-7. Junior goaltender Michelle Jerantowski notched her OVC-leading fourth shutout of the season and her second consecutive shutout at home. For the second straight home match, the Eagles defense stifled their opponent's offense, requiring only three saves from Jerantowski.

The lone tally was scored in the 25th minute, when the ball bounced off the hands of Austin Peay's keeper and found the right foot of Jenna Setters, who buried it into the top of the goal for the first goal of her collegiate career. The Eagles nearly doubled their lead with a chance from Colleen Swift four minutes later, but the shot bounced off the post.

Swift continued her offensive attack, putting two more shots on goal into the second half, but was unable to extend Morehead State's lead. A dangerous opportunity for Austin Peay materialized in the 88th minute, but was saved by a diving Jerantowski to preserve the shutout and the win for the Eagles.

Next up, Morehead State looks to continue their momentum as they take on in-state rival Murray State in a critical matchup in the OVC standings. The game kicks off at 2:00 PM ET Sunday.
