For the Second Time This Season, Volleyball's Bridget Bessler Bestowed OVC Setter of the Week Honors

For the second time during her inaugural campaign, Morehead State volleyball's Bridget Bessler has been bestowed Ohio Valley Conference Setter of the Week. The award marks the fourth overall OVC weekly honor of her freshman season, accompanied by two Newcomer of the Week honors.

The Hebron, Ky. native dished out 91 total assists in the Eagles' wins over Belmont and Tennessee State last weekend. Bessler averaged a league-best 13.0 assists per set while her assist total ranked third among league setters. She also led Morehead State to an OVC-best .296 hitting percentage in last weekend's action.

Bessler opened the weekend with a 58-assist performance against Tennessee State, averaging 14.5 assists per set. She'd also dump in five kills and collect five digs in the Eagles' four-set victory. Closing the weekend, Bessler passed out 11.0 assists per set, racking up 33 assists in a straight-set victory over Belmont. She added eight digs in the contest, nearly recording her seventh double-double of the season.

On the year, Bessler leads Morehead State while ranking fifth in the OVC in total assists, totaling 851 assists. Across 76 sets, Bessler averages 11.2 assists per set, ranking 20th in the NCAA in the category and being one of two true freshmen across the country to rank in the top-25 in the category.

As a team, Morehead State ranks among tops in the nation in assists per set and team total assists, ranking 10th and 13th, respectively. The Eagles average 13.29 assists per set, totaling 1,223 team assists.

Bessler and Morehead State return to Johnson Arena for the final time in the 2019 season this weekend, welcoming in Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. The Eagles host the Golden Eagles Friday at 6 p.m. ET while hosting the Gamecocks on Saturday at 2 p.m.
