Saint Joseph Mount Sterling will hold a memorial dedication in honor of two physicians who contributed greatly to health care advancements in the local community.
Mary Lee “Cookie” Eastham, MD, and Lonnie William “Bill” Roberts, MD, will be honored posthumously at the event that will be held Tuesday, March 10, at noon in the upstairs lobby at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling.
“Both Dr. Roberts and Dr. Eastham came to Mary Chiles Hospital, now known as Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, at a pivotal point in time,” said Jennifer Nolan, president, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. “They brought advanced medical technologies to the community, which elevated patient care and allowed our patients to stay close to home while receiving treatment. Their collective presence is missed daily by the Saint Joseph Mount Sterling staff, so we are looking forward to hosting this memorial service in their honor.”
Dr. Roberts served the Mount Sterling community as an Internal Medicine physician for 38 years, from 1980 to 2018. Dr. Roberts was involved in building the new Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and he was instrumental in bringing evidence-based best practices to Mount Sterling in Critical Care. He is said to have had one of the busiest physician offices in the area.
Dr. Eastham served Women’s Care patients as an obstetrics physician for 28 years, from 1980 to 2008. Dr. Eastham delivered babies for patients in Mount Sterling and surrounding counties, with an equally busy office practice, until her health began to decline.
Due to the increase in need for Women’s Care services in the area, Saint Joseph Health Mount Sterling had to expand the hospital to accommodate the growth. This increase is oftentimes attributed to the exceptional, personalized care and comfort that Dr. Eastham provided her patients.
The March 10 memorial dedication service will be led by Nolan, and Sister Janet Carr, chaplain and mission leader, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, will be delivering a blessing.
Brent Terrell, MD, Urology, Commonwealth Urology, and Byram Ratliff, MD, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and Saint Joseph London, will both speak at the event.
Jenny Chism, RN, director, Nursing, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and members of the honorees’ families also plan to attend.
