Safety improvements coming to KY 158 in Rowan County

Kentucky.com

Contractors expect to start a $1.8 million Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement project on KY 158 in Rowan County next week.

The project includes several types of safety enhancements such as tree removal and roadside slope reductions for better crash recovery, culvert extensions to widen roadway shoulders, new highway signage, and curve revisions that will add banking in several areas, as well as ditch work and other maintenance.

The work will take place on KY 158 between the Fleming-Rowan county line and the KY 32 intersection, from the 0 to 3 mile markers.

Contractors will install work zone signs and erosion control this week, with tree removal and water line relocation starting May 13. Culvert extensions start May 20. Curve revisions and other work start May 27. Work will continue through the summer and fall, with a project completion date of Nov. 15.

During the project, motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures with one-lane traffic in work areas. Motorists should heed all work zone signs and watch for flaggers.

The work is being done under a $1,859,583.74 low-bid contract awarded to ASL Excavating.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
