Rowan County selected for Land Water Conservation Fund of $75,000

The Department for Local Government (DLG) selected Rowan County for an award of $75,000 from the Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for Don Greenhill Park.

The proposed funding will go to construct a dog park, resurface the basketball court, and replace the existing playground equipment, originally installed in 1992.

“Preserving and maintaining local parks is an integral part of stewarding resources so that they might be enjoyed by all,” said DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. “The investment in Don Greenhill Park will yield many benefits to the children and families of this community.”

"These enhancements will provide local residents a safe, convenient place for children to play and families to gather,” said Sen. Stephen West. “I appreciate Rowan County’s leaders seeking these funds and DLG for realizing the value of investing in these improvements."

Administered by DLG, funds for this program are allocated to Kentucky by the Department of Interior, National Park Service. Only upon their approval and an executed Memorandum of Agreement by DLG, may construction begin.
