Road Work Throughout East Kentucky Continues

Pic 2 Fly

Paving jobs on US 60 in Boyd County and on KY 59 and KY 344 in Lewis County are among road improvement projects affecting traffic the week of Aug. 11 in northeast Kentucky.

Road work is subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling in the follow counties:

BOYD COUNTY

On Wednesday, Aug. 13, contractors expect to begin resurfacing nearly two miles of US 60 from near KY 5 at Princess to the traffic lights at the KY 180 intersection in Cannonsburg. Traffic will be one lane controlled by flaggers. Expect delays. Work will take place for approximately two weeks.

Additionally, the City of Ashland is making sewer repairs on KY 168 (Blackburn Avenue) downtown, and will close the roadway between 29th Street and Monroe Street from Monday, Aug. 11 to Tuesday, Aug. 12. The city will use adjacent streets to detour all traffic.

LEWIS COUNTY

Contractors expect to start paving operations on KY 59 and KY 344 in the Kinniconick area on Monday, Aug. 11. Watch for one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers. Paving on KY 57 from the Fleming-Lewis county line to near the KY 1237 intersection should start the next week, the week of Aug. 18.

BATH COUNTY

US 60 will be closed at Salt Lick weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting, to correct a landslide along Salt Lick Creek. Closure will be just to the Owingsville side of the KY 211 south intersection at Salt Lick. The highway will reopen overnight. Detour using I-64 between Exit 123 at US 60 Owingsville and Exit 133 at KY 801. For local traffic, the roadway will remain open up to either side of the work site.

CARTER COUNTY

Road work is taking place along Interstate 64 in Carter County from mile markers 166 to 172, which is between the Gregoryville-Fultz Road overpass and the Grayson exit. Traffic is one lane eastbound and westbound, and the speed limit is 55 miles per hour in the work zone – a double-fine zone when workers are present.

ELLIOTT COUNTY

Work is continuing on five miles of KY 7 being rebuilt from just north of KY 706 to the Elliott-Carter county line. Motorists should expect possible lane closures, lane shifts and other impacts, and should be mindful of trucks or other heavy equipment entering and leaving the highway in that area.

FLEMING COUNTY

For the next two weeks, construction will take place in Flemingsburg on KY 11X – also known as KY 11 Bus., or business route – from the KY 11 and KY 32-Flemingsburg Bypass intersection south of town near Pizza Hut to the KY 11-Flemingsburg Bypass intersection north of downtown near the country club. Work includes curbside drainage repairs and paving, with one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers.

Work is continuing on the extension of the Flemingsburg Bypass, and includes traffic changes at the end of the current bypass at the KY 11 intersection where traffic is being maintained currently as a three-way stop. A stop condition for all Cherry Grove Road (KY 597) traffic is also now in place. In addition, please watch for construction vehicles and possible flagged traffic conditions where the new bypass ends at the KY 57 terminus.

Contractors are working on roadside and drainage improvements along KY 57 between Flemingsburg and the Lewis County line. Watch for intermittent one-lane traffic and flaggers or temporary traffic signals.

GREENUP COUNTY

Contractors are finishing up paving and road improvement operations on the AA Highway from the Greenup Locks and Dam-US 23 area to KY 7 at Beechy. Watch for intermittent lane closures. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour.

Highway crews are preparing KY 784, Lost Creek Road, in southwest Greenup County for paving later this year, with work that includes drainage pipe replacements and roadside repairs. Watch for road and lane closures during weekday working hours.

ROWAN COUNTY

Weather permitting, contractors will begin paving operations on McBrayer Road (KY 2342) from US 60 to KY 519. Watch for one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers.

ALL COUNTIES

Also, in all counties, roadside mowing and roadway striping is ongoing. Motorists should watch for signs warning of workers ahead and slow down through work zones to protect themselves and equipment operators.
