Rifle Posts Several Personal Bests at Akron

Several Morehead State rifle athletes continued to shoot well with personal bests as the team competed at Akron Saturday against the host team and Nebraska.

The Eagles entered the match ranked 12th nationally in the CRCA poll, tied with Akron, while Nebraska was 11th. The teams' best scores of the year were all within one point of each other heading in. MSU finished with a 4,634 total, shooting 2,292 in smallbore and 2,346 in air rifle. Akron claimed the tri-match with a 4,660, while the Cornhuskers shot a 4,654.

Senior Siarra Crum established a personal best with a 588 air score, tying for team-high honors with junior Karly Potts. Junior Alexa Potts fired a 587 air total, while freshman Erin Diehl continued her improvement with a personal-record 585. Fellow freshman Amber Schifano also tied her high-water mark in air with a 582.

Five shooters tied or set various highs in smallbore. Sophomore Ryan Hinson led the way with a 575, including a PR in standing at 193. Senior Brandon Bryer tied his PR in prone at 199 and fashioned a 571 total. Freshman Katie Frye's 188 in the standing position was a PR, adding to her SB total of 573.

Karly Potts also tied her PR in standing at 187, while Schifano also tied her standing best at 186.

MSU returns home for its first matches in Button in a month when Army visits Friday and Georgia Southern provides the opposition Saturday.
